After 16 years of creating and leading numerous strategic public relations, communications and marketing initiatives, Courtney Malengo founded Spark + Buzz Communications, LLC, out of a desire to pursue her professional passions and spend more time with her infant son. As Founder + Chief Communicator at Spark + Buzz, she is passionate about helping others tell their story and harness the power of sincere, strategic and compelling communication to drive results.
Courtney fell in love with words and creative writing at an early age, which led her to become a writer and journalist, always searching for a story. Evolving from her roots as a journalist, Courtney expanded her repertoire into strategic branding, marketing, communications and public relations. Embracing an integrated approach and navigating between both strategic and tactical approaches, it uniquely positions her to help brands operationalize change.
Her strategic and actionable insights for clients have led to business growth and enhanced employee engagement. Courtney has garnered countless media placements over her career, provided hands-on media training and coaching, as well as served as a spokesperson. She has counseled executive teams in times of crisis, tackling everything from employee misconduct and natural disasters to a shooting. Courtney also has experience in creating brands from scratch, as well as designing the brand architecture for brands as they evolve and grow.
As an accredited public relations professional (APR), Courtney has a knack for understanding the multi-faceted layers of organizational communication and simplifying the complex with clarity and brevity. She received her bachelor’s in writing, with a minor in mass communication, from Eastern University in St. David’s, Pa., and her master’s in communication and leadership from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash.
When she isn’t crafting a solution for a client, you can find her enjoying time with her son, baking goodies, daydreaming about using the Sigwalt letterpress printer she saved from a shed in Pennsylvania, coveting a cup of coffee, and indulging in her lavender obsession.
